Tokyo, Japan - The nationally-ranked Charlotte 49ers shot two-over par 290 in the second round of the season-opening Topy Cup to climb from ninth to fourth-place with one round remaining. Junior Blake Stark led Charlotte with a one-under par 71 while sophomore Will Golden matched his career-best with an even-par 72.
Charlotte boasts a two-round total of +12, 588. Japanese university Tohoku Fukushi leads the prestigious event after two rounds at 23-under par, 553. Lamar is in second-place at -3, 573.
Individually, the 49ers Corey Nagy, who shot a second round 75, is tied for 16th overall at +2, 146.
Stark, Golden and seniors Stefan Wiedergruen (+1, 73) and David Rawluk (+2, 74), all carded improved rounds on day two to key the 49ers surge. Charlotte improved its scoring in the second round by eight strokes.
Golden and Wiedergruen are tied for 19th, individually, at +3, 147.
