49ers Golf Team 11th at Wofford Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. - The Charlotte 49ers golf team placed to 11th of 12 teams at the Wofford Invitational, despite a career-best performance from sophomore Scott McNeil. McNeil carded a career-best 71 in the second round to finish tied for ninth, individually, at +1, 217 following rounds of 73-71-73. The 217 score was 10 strokes better than his previous career-best.
Freshman John Samaha rebounded from an opening round 78 to come in at +8, 224 (78-72-74).
Virginia (286-294-282 -- 862) won the event while the 49ers finished with a team score of 318-301-298 -- 917.
In each of the last three tournaments, first round woes have dug the 49ers into a deep hole. The Niners have tried to rebound, taking double-digit numbers off their first round scores in the second round. At the Birkdale Intercollegiate, the 49ers improved by 17 strokes from rounds 1 to 2. At Furman, the 49ers cut 12 strokes off their first round score. And at Wofford, the 49ers cut 17 strokes off the first round score.
The Wofford Invitational was the 49ers final tune-up prior to the Conference USA Championships, to be held April 22-24 in Navarre, Fla.
