49ers Golf In Third Place at LSU Spring Invitational

Baton Rouge, La. - Charlotte junior Scott McNeil shot an opening round -3, 69 to lead the 49ers to a -2, 286 and a third-place tie after the first round of the 17-team LSU Spring Invitational.
McNeil (33-36 -- 69) is tied for 8th-place individually. Matt Mincer (36-35 -- 71)and John Arnette (37-34 -- 71) both shot a -1, 71 to tie for 20th, overall.
The 49ers are 12 strokes off the lead, held by Middle Tennessee State (-14, 274). Furman is in second place (-10, 278) while Charlotte and South Alabama are tied for third at -2. Middle Tennessee State's Blake Bivens holds the individual first-round lead at -6, 66 (32-34).
The tournament field includes five Conference USA schools, with Charlotte tops among league competitors. Tulane shot even par 288; Memphis is a +4 292; South Florida is at +5, 293 and Southern Miss shot a +14, 302.
Freshman Ty Lefler shot a +3, 75 to wrap up the scoring for the 49ers. Ray Sheedy shot a 77.
