Greenville, S.C. - The 49ers golf team rallied with a second round 301 and final round 289 to finish 10th at the 24-team Furman Intercollegiate.
The 49ers, 20th after shooting a first round 313, got career-best rounds from Scott McNeil, John Samaha and Michael Jolly in the final round to post a season-best team score of 289.
Even after their improved second round of 301, the 49ers stood 18th entering the final day. By shooting the day's third-best round of 289, the 49ers jumped into the top 10. The final round 289 is the 49ers best team score of the season, topping the 290 shot in the final round of the last week's Birkdale Intercollegiate. The 49ers also shot 290 in the first round of the fall semester, at the Mid-Pines Intercollegiate.
McNeil led the 49ers at +11, 227, matching his personal best with a 72 in the final round. Three 49ers were tied at 228 (+12), including Jolly, who posted back-to-back career-best rounds of 74 in the second and third rounds, and Samaha, whose final round 70 matched his career-best.
