Gerrity Leaves Basketball Program

Junior Guard Cites Personal Reasons

Sept. 5, 2008

Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers head men's basketball coach Bobby Lutz has announced that junior guard Michael Gerrity (Yorba Linda, Ca./Mater Dei H.S.) has decided to leave the program. While Gerrity will not be a part of the team, he will finish out the semester at UNC Charlotte and transfer at the end of the fall. He has not yet finalized his destination.

"I'm very surprised and disappointed with Mike's decision," said 49ers head coach Bobby Lutz, "however, I have to respect what he and his family have decided is best for him. I hope that things turn out the way he wants them to."

Gerrity averaged 4.7 points in 19.1 minutes of play as the 49ers reserve point guard, last season. Despite joining the team at the end of the first semester as a transfer from Pepperdine, Gerrity passed out 91 assists to lead the team with a 3.50 assist average. He was third in the Atlantic 10 Conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.39) behind teammate and league leader Dijuan Harris and Xavier's Drew Lavender. Gerrity made four starts in 26 games played. He shot .390 from the field and .645 from the foul line. He posted a 3.0 GPA in each of his three semesters with the 49ers.

"I definitely wish my teammates the best of luck," said Gerrity, who cited personal reasons for his decision. "I enjoyed my time playing with the team."
