Grier To Transfer From Charlotte Basketball Program

Reserve Forward/Guard Averaged 5.1 Points as a Freshman

July 11, 2003

Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers sophomore men's basketball player Vincent Grier (Charlotte, N.C.; Raleigh Bonner Academy) announced Tuesday that he is transferring from the 49ers program.

"I wish Charlotte the best," Grier said. "I enjoyed being a part of the program and being able to play in front of family and friends. But, my family and I have decided that it is in my best interest for me to go to a junior college for a year."

Grier, a 6-6 reserve forward/guard, averaged 5.1 points and 3.3 rebounds for the 49ers, while averaging just under 20 minutes a game as a freshman. He added 32 steals and shot .521 from the field.

"While we are disappointed in Vincent's decision because of the bright future he had at Charlotte, we certainly understand and fully support his decision," said 49ers head coach Bobby Lutz. "We want the best for Vincent. He'll be missed but we respect the decision he and his family have made."
