Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers head men's basketball coach Bobby Lutz has announced that sophomore center Martin Iti has decided to withdraw from the team and plans to transfer from the university.
"We appreciate all the contributions that Martin provided in his two years at Charlotte," Lutz said. "He has been a very good teammate and will be missed. We wish Martin the very best in his future endeavors and we'll follow his career."
"I enjoyed my time and had a good experience," Iti said of his decision. "Things just didn't work out."
At this time, Iti has not identified what school he will transfer to.
Iti was the 49ers starting center on this past year's 21-8 team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament. He started 27 of the 29 games, averaging 5.0 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting .512 from the floor. He averaged 18.2 minutes played and led the team with 48 blocked shots and 38 dunks. He was a Conference USA all-freshman selection in his first season.
