Basden adds To Post-Season Honors

49ers Senior Named AP Honorable Mention All-America; 2nd Team all-America by Basketball Times

March 30, 2005

Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers senior swing Eddie Basden continues to accumulate post-season honors. Already named Conference USA Player of the Year, Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year and a Sports Illustrated third team all-America, Basden has been named an honorable mention all-America by the Associated Press (AP) and a second team all-America by Basketball Times.

Basden, who was the only player in C-USA to rank in the league's top 10 in scoring (10th), rebounding (6th), assists (10th) and steals (1st), averaged 15,2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.2 steals. In addition, he shot .487 from the field and .386 from three-point range.

He became the second 49er in C-USA history to earn the league's top player honors (DeMarco Johnson) and the third player in league history to garner Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors in the same season (Marquette's Dwyane Wade; Cincinnati's Kenyon Martin). Basden was named C-USA Player of the Week three times over a four week span in February as the 49ers rolled unbeaten through the month.

He completed his career with 1066 career points (18th all-time for the 49ers), 765 career rebounds (6th all-time for the 49ers) and 264 career steals, establishing new school and conference records for thefts. His 93 steals this season are a new 49er record and he ranked fifth in the NCAA in steals per game (3.2). ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Bilas named Basden his National Defensive Player of the Year.
