Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers senior sharpshooter Jobey Thomas (Charlotte, N.C.), who completed his career as the 49ers and Conference USA's all-time leading three-point shooter, has been invited to participate in 14th Annual ESPN College Slam Dunk and 3-Point Basketball Challenge, to be held Thursday, Mar. 28 at 7:00 p.m. in Atlanta's Georgia State Arena. The event, which is made up of senior athletes who have exhausted their eligibility, showcases the nation's top three-point shooters and slam dunkers.
Thomas retired with 346 career threes, 11th all-time on the NCAA three-point shooting charts. This season, he set school and conference single-season records by hitting 110 three-pointers. He shot a career-high .433 from long range this season.
A first-team all-Conference USA selection, Thomas led the 49ers to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in his four-year career. He averaged a career-best 18.5 points, including a 20.1 scoring average in C-USA play. The 49ers were 18-12 overall, 11-5 in league play.
He led C-USA in three-pointers made in each of the last three years.
He broke the 49ers' 10-year old school records for threes made in a season and threes made in a career. Both of those records were set by guard Henry Williams in 1992.
Ironically, Williams is the last 49er to participate in this three-point contest. Williams won the event 10 years ago in Minneapolis, Minn.
Other players scheduled to participate in the eight-man competition include: Tony Akins, Georgia Tech, Cory Bradford, Illinois, Dan Dickau, Gonzaga, Steve Logan, Cincinnati, David Graves, Notre Dame.
