Notes: The two teams have split their meetings since the 49ers joined the A-10. Charlotte won 88-80 at Halton Arena in 2006 while the Rams won 86-69 ay the Ryan Center, last year. Bobby Lutz is 3-2 vs. Rhode Island. The first meeting came in the 1999 NCAA Tournament, with Charlotte winning 81-70 in OT, in Milwaukee, Wisc. Charlotte is 0-2 at Rhode Island.

THE GAME: The Charlotte 49ers (17-12; 8-7) travel to Rhode Island (21-9; 7-8), Saturday at 7:00 p.m. (Radio: WFNA, 1660 AM - Matt Swierad; Live Audio: Charlotte49ers.com). Charlotte is tied for 6th-place in the Atlantic 10's ever-changing race. The 49ers have clinched an A-10 Tourney berth. Charlotte has won three of its last four games, but has lost its last three road games.

Quick Recap: Charlotte, with the nation's 13th-ranked recruiting class, has looked to newcomers to surpass last year's win total, post a 2-1 record vs. teams currently in the Top 25 and compile a 6-6 record vs. Top 100 RPI teams. Only scoring leader Leemire Goldwire (18.4 ppg) and sixth-man Ian Andersen averaged more than 6.0 minutes for the 49ers, last year. Juniors Lamont Mack, and Charlie Coley, sophomores Dijuan Harris, Michael Gerrity and Phil Jones and freshmen An'Juan Wilderness, Charles Dewhurst and Gaby Ngoundjo are all playing in their first season for the 49ers.

MACK ATTACK: Junior Lamont Mack has been on a scoring spree of late, averaging 19.5 points over the last six games. He's scored over 15 points in each of the six, led the 49ers in scoring in five of the six and posted a pair of 20+ outings, including a career-best 27 at Richmond. In those five, Mack is shooting .476 from the field (39-82) and .435 from three-point range (16-37). Mack has scored in double figures in 15 of the last 17 games and is averaging 15.4 points in A-10 play.

LUTZ BECOMES ALL-TIME WINNINGEST COACH: With 185 wins as the 49ers head coach, Bobby Lutz has passed Jeff Mullins as the 49ers all-time winningest coach. Jeff Mullins, a former Duke all-America who won a gold medal on the 1964 US Olympic team before a stellar NBA career that included a World Championship with the 1976 Golden State Warriors, posted a 182-142 record in 11 years with the 49ers (1986-96). Lutz owns a 185-124 record in 10 years. Record-breaking win #183 came in a 81-64 home decision against Saint Louis, Feb 23.

CLOSE CALLS: 21 of Charlotte's 29 games have been decided by seven points or less (11-10); 11 by 4 points or less: 5-6. Charlotte has only lost two games by double figures and only trailed by double figures in five games. Ten losses are by seven points or less. Charlotte has won six games by double figures, including Southern Illinois (+15), at #18/#19 Clemson (+10) and Saint Louis (+17, 49ers highest margin in A-10 play). Charlotte has only given up two runs of more than 10 straight points, this season.
