at Saint Louis (Mar. 5; 8:10 -- WFNZ 610 AM):

The 49ers travel to Saint Louis, where they have never won, to open the final week of the regular-season. The 49ers are 0-6 vs. the Billikens in St. Louis. Charlotte won the season's earlier meeting, 62-55, in Charlotte. The 49ers own a 6-1 record vs. SLU @ Halton Arena. The 49ers are 6-7 in series play with SLU. 49ers head coach Bobby Lutz is 4-5 all-time vs. the Billikens. The 49ers most success in St. Louis came in the 1997 C-USA Tournament. Seeded third, the 49ers advanced to the title game, falling to Marquette, 60-52. Charlotte beat Louisville and UAB along the way.

The 49ers have won three straight and five of the last six. The three-game win streak matches the longest of the season.

Brown Leads Nation in Three-Pointers: Junior guard Demon Brown leads the nation in three-pointers made per game (129; 4.96/gm) and is shooting a career-best .403 from long-range. His 129 threes rank 13th all-time in NCAA history (chart on page 4) and he is hoping to become just the 2nd player in NCAA Div. I history to average at least 5.0 threes per game. He has broken the 49ers and C-USA's single-season record for threes, set last season (110, Jobey Thomas). He broke the 49ers single-game school record (shared by Brown; Diego Guevara and Henry Williams) with nine threes at UAB on his way to a career-high 32 points. The NCAA record for threes in a season is 158 (5.64/gm) by Darrin Fitzgerald of Butler in 1987. Fitzgerald is the only player to average at least 5.0 threes per game.

C-USA's Top Freshman Rebounder: Freshman forward Curtis Withers leads C-USA freshman in rebounding (6.5) and is 3rd among league frosh in scoring (10.1). And those numbers improve in C-USA play (10.9 ppg; 7.1 rpg). He could become just the 2nd 49er to be named to C-USA's all-Freshmen team (Rodney White, 2001). He has scored in double figures 15 times, including 10 of 14 C-USA games. He has three double-doubles, including a 15p-10r outing vs. Louisville and a 13p-13r effort vs. Houston. Other top games include an 18-point performance at DePaul, 13 points at Cincinnati and 11 points at Marquette.

What Can Brown Do For You?: Junior guard Demon Brown has scored 20 or more points in eight of the last 14 games and 12 games overall. He's T4th in C-USA with an 17.6 scoring average that improves to 18.5 points in C-USA play (4th). He has scored 15 or more points in 19 games and has scored in double figures in all but three games (1-2). Brown is 2nd on the team with 34 steals. He became the 18th player in 49ers history to score 1000 career points when he scored 22 at Cincinnati. With 258 career threes, Brown is #3 all-time for the 49ers, behind Jobey Thomas and Henry Williams and #2 all-time in C-USA, trailing all-time leader Thomas.

That's Nash-ty: Senior Curtis Nash has scored in double figures in six of the last nine games, including 20 in the win vs. Cincinnati and 21 in the win at East Carolina. In the last 5 games, he's shooting .438 (14-of-32) from three-point range. In addition, in those 5 games, he's passed out 21 assists (4.2/gm).
