Chicago, Ill. - Charlotte 49er seniors Jobey Thomas and Cam Stephens were named to the all-Conference USA first and second teams, respectively, in a vote by the league's media and head coaches.
Thomas, who leads the 49ers and ranks fourth in C-USA with a 19.4 scoring average, becomes the fifth 49er to earn first team all-Conference USA honors. Previous 49ers to cop first team honors are DeMarco Johnson (1997, 1998), Sean Colson (1998), Galen Young (1999) and Rodney White (2001). Thomas leads Conference USA in three-pointers made, with a league record 102 and also leads C-USA in three-point field goal pct., with a career-high .442. He averaged 20.4 points in league games, posting 10 of his 14 20-point games against C-USA competition.
Stephens, the 49ers top rebounder at 9.7 boards per game, was named second team. In C-USA games, Stephens averaged a double-double of 15.3 points and 10.4 rebounds. His string of five straight double-doubles led the 49ers to an 8-1 start in league play. He ended the regular-season with 13 double-doubles, including nine in league games. Stephens is shooting .538 from the floor.
Joining Thomas on the first team were Cincinnati guard Steve Logan, Marquette guard Dwyane Wade, Louisville guard Reece Gaines and Memphis' Dajuan Wagner and Kelly Wise.
Second team selections included Stephens, Marquette's Cordell Henry, South Florida's Altron Jackson, TCU's Junior Blount and Saint Louis' Marque Perry.
The third team was made up of Tulane's Brandon Brown, Cincinnati's Leonard Stokes, South Florida's BB Waldon, Elvin Mims of Southern Miss, Houston's Louis Truscott and UAB's Will Campbell.
