Halton Arena -

vs. Southern Miss (Feb. 26; 7:30 -- WFNZ 610 AM): The 49ers host Southern Miss, Wednesday night in the first of their final two home games of the year (DePaul, Saturday; 3:00 p.m.). Charlotte is 23-4 all-time vs. the Golden Eagles, including an 8-1 record at home. The 49ers are 2-0 vs. USM at Halton Arena and head coach Bobby Lutz holds a perfect 5-0 record over the Golden Eagles. Charlotte has won the last nine meetings between the two schools. The two teams did not play last year. USM visited Halton, Jan. 27, 2001, with Charlotte winning 71-60. Later that season, the 49ers topped USM 75-63 on their way to the C-USA Tournament Championship in Louisville, Ky. Those were the last meetings.

Brown Leads Nation in Three-Pointers: Junior guard Demon Brown leads the nation in three-pointers made per game (124; 5.17/gm) and is shooting a career-best .411 from long-range. He has broken the 49ers and C-USA's single-season record for threes, set last season (110, Jobey Thomas). He broke the 49ers single-game school record (shared by Brown; Diego Guevara and Henry Williams) with nine threes at UAB on his way to a career-high 32 points. Of note, the NCAA record for threes in a season is 158 (5.64/gm) by Darrin Fitzgerald of Butler in 1987. Fitzgerald is the only player in NCAA Div. I history to average at least 5.0 threes per game over an entire season.

All-Freshmen Team?: Freshman forward Curtis Withers, who leads C-USA freshman in rebounding, is 4th in scoring and sees those numbers improve in C-USA play, would be just the 2nd 49er to be named to C-USA's all-Freshmen team (Rodney White, 2001). He has scored in double figures 13 times, including 8 of 12 C-USA games. He has three double-doubles, including a 15p-10r outing vs. Louisville and a 13p-13r effort vs. Houston. Other top games include an 18-point performance at DePaul, 13 points at Cincinnati and 11 points at Marquette.

What Can Brown Do For You?: Junior guard Demon Brown has scored 20 or more points in eight of the last 12 games and 12 games overall. He's 3rd in C-USA with an 18.3 scoring average that improves to a league-leading 20.2 points in C-USA play. He has scored 15 or more points in 19 games and has scored in double figures in all but two games (0-2). Brown is 2nd on the team with 31 steals. He became the 18th player in 49ers history to score 1000 career points when he scored 22 at Cincinnati. With 253 career threes, Brown is #3 all-time for the 49ers, behind Thomas and Williams and #2 all-time in C-USA, trailing all-time leader Jobey Thomas.

That's Nash-ty: Senior Curtis Nash has scored in double figures in five of the last seven games, including 20 in the win vs. Cincinnati and 21 in the win at East Carolina. In the last 3 games, he's shooting .563 (9-of-16) from three-point range. In addition, in those 3 games, he's passed out 13 assists (4.3/gm) with 4 steals and just 3 turnovers.
