Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers senior guard Jobey Thomas (Charlotte, N.C.) has been named first-team Verizon Academic all-District III in a vote by the district's Sports Information Directors. Thomas, who owns a 3.53 cumulative GPA as a Communications major, is averaging 18.9 points for the 49ers (19.8 in C-USA play).

Thomas, who has scored over 1600 career points, is both the school's and Conference USA's all-time leading three-point shooter with 328 career three-pointers. He ranks sixth all-time in C-USA and eighth all-time in 49ers history in points scored. This year, he has led the 49ers to a 16-9 record, 10-4 in C-USA. The 49ers currently have an RPI of 29. Thomas has had 12 games with 20 or more points, this season.

The national Verizon academic all-America team, which Thomas is now eligible for, will be announced March 7. Joining Thomas on the all-District team are Florida's Matt Bonner, Duke's Mike Dunleavy, Miami's James Jones and James Madison's Tim Lyle.

District III includes all Division I schools in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
