at Charlotte: 166-109, 9th year

Series: 49ers lead 3-1 (H:2-0; A: 1-1)
Charlotte won last year's meeting, 77-71, at Halton Arena. That was the first meeting between the two teams since Dec. 3, 1994, when Charlotte won 79-70 in Pittsburgh. Duquesne defeated Charlotte, 75-73 in the 1994 NIT first round in Pittsburgh. Head coach Bobby Lutz is 1-0 vs. Duquesne.
The Game: The Charlotte 49ers (12-13; 5-7) travel to Duquesne, Wednesday (7:00 p.m.) in hopes of curing the road woes that continue to plaque the team. Charlotte is 1-9 in true road games and have lost their last four road contests, including Saturday's 86-69 loss at Rhode Island. The Rhode Island loss snapped a three-game win streak for the 49ers. Meanwhile, senior De'Angelo Alexander has closed to within 13 points of 1000 in his two-year career. He would become the 21st 49er to join the 1000-point club and the fifth to do so in just two seasons.
Next Game: Charlotte's three-game road swing concludes at Temple, Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Temple is currently 11-14 and tied with Charlotte at 5-7 in league play. Temple plays at Saint Joseph's Thursday night.
Triple Threat: In Charlotte's last three A-10 wins, a different player scored at least 25 points to lead the way. E.J. Drayton scored a career-high 26 points in the 49ers 87-80 win over La Salle. Against Richmond, Leemire Goldwire scored 25 points and last Saturday, vs. Fordham, De'Angelo Alexander exploded for a career-high 35 -- the most scored by an A-10 player this year.
"THREE"ANGELO HEATING UP: In the last three games, De'Angelo Alexander is averaging 22.3 points and 8.6 rebounds while shooting .440 (22-of-50) from the floor and .444 (12-of-27) from long range. He scored a career-high 35 against Fordham, only the second time since 1991 that a 49er has scored 35 or more points. The 35 are also the most scored by an A-10 Player this year. He added 19 points against UL-Lafayette and 13 with 9 rebounds at Rhode Island. Alexander's latest scoring spree has pushed his career scoring total to 987, 13 shy of becoming the 21st player in 49er history to score 1000 career points -- and just the fifth to do it in two years.
Alexander's 35-Point Outing: In De'Angelo Alexander's 35-point game vs. Fordham, the highest scoring effort by a player in the A-10 this year, Alexander hit 12-of-20 shots and 6-of-9 from long range. He joined Curtis Withers (39 pts. at Saint Louis, Feb. 12, 2005) as the only 49ers to score 35 or more since 1991 (Henry Williams, 35 vs. Chaminade, Dec. 22, 1991).
Alexander; Goldwire Close In on 1000-Point Club: De'Angelo Alexander and Leemire Goldwire are both closing in on 1000 career points. Alexander has scored 987 career points while Goldwire has scored 947. They would be the 21st and 22nd players in school history to reach the plateau and the first to do so since Curtis Withers and Eddie Basden joined the club in 2005. Alexander would be the fifth 49er to reach 1000 in just two years, joining Henry Williams, Lew Massey, Robert Earl Blue and George Jackson.
Drayton Doubling Up: E.J. Drayton, who has four double-doubles in A-10 play, has posted seven double-doubles, three in the last six games:
Fordham: 13 pts; 10 rebs (on a sore knee)
La Salle: 26 pts; 11 rebs (7-of-7 fg; 12-of-15 ft)
UMass: 16 pts; 13 rebs (vs. Freeman; Lasme)
The double-double against two of the A-10's premier big men (UMass' Rashaun Freeman and Stephane Lasme) was only the second double-double yielded by UMass, this year. The 13 rebounds matched his career-high set in the first two games, this season.
ICE, ICE, Baby: Leemire Goldwire, who ranks 2nd in the A-10 with a .900 FT%, is especially good in the clutch:
vs. Hofstra: 10-10 FT in final 67 seconds
vs. La Salle: 6-6 FT in final 31 seconds
vs. Fordham: 8-8 FT in final 44 seconds
His perfect 10's (or more), this year:
12-of-12 vs. Hofstra
10-of-10 vs. La Salle
Love February: Charlotte is 16-4 in the month of February over the last 3 years.
2004-05: 7-0 Basden & Withers led charge
2005-06: 6-2 6-1 in A-10 play
2006-07: 3-2
Total 16-4
ROAD WOES: Charlotte is just 1-9 in true road games and have lost four straight on the road.
