vs. Cincinnati (Feb. 15; 7:00 -- WFNZ 610 AM; ESPN: Bob Carpenter; Doug Gottlieb): The 49ers face Cincinnati in the next edition of what has become a growing rivalry. Although Cincinnati has been ranked in five of its six trips to Halton Arena, the 49ers are 3-3 vs. the Bearcats at home. Charlotte is also 2-2 vs. Cincinnati in C-USA tourney play with the two losses coming in Cincinnati and the two wins at neutral sites. Cincinnati (7) and Charlotte (5) lead C-USA in NCAA trips since the league was formed and the Bearcats (3) and 49ers (2) are 1-2 in C-USA Tournament titles. Both programs have been to the C-USA title game a league-high 4 times. Charlotte dropped a four-point, 83-79, decision at the Shoemaker Center earlier this year. Cincinnati owns a league-best 59.5 points allowed average and opponents shoot just .393.

Last Time Out: Freshman Curtis Withers notched his third double-double of the year with 13 points and a career-high 13 rebounds and Demon Brown nailed a pair of threes in OT, as Charlotte topped Houston, 59-55 in overtime. Charlotte led by 13 at the half, but scored just 20 second half points as Houston forced OT at 51-51. The 49ers shot just .310 from the floor, but came up with 11 steals and 24 offensive rebounds. Freshman Vincent Grier added 10 points and six rebounds.

Brown Leads Nation in Three-Pointers: Junior guard Demon Brown leads the nation in three-pointers made per game (106; 5.04/gm) and is shooting a career-best .411 from long-range. He needs just 4 more threes to match the 49ers and C-USA's single-season record (110, Jobey Thomas, 2002). He broke the 49ers single-game school record (shared by Brown; Diego Guevara and Henry Williams) with nine threes at UAB on his way to a career-high 32 points. Of note, the NCAA record for threes in a season is 158 (5.64/gm) by Darrin Fitzgerald of Butler in 1987. Fitzgerald is the only player in NCAA Div. I history to average at least 5.0 threes per game over an entire season.

A Niner Atop C-USA in Threes, Again: Demon Brown leads the nation and C-USA in three-pointers made per game (106; 5.04/gm). A 49er has led C-USA in three-pointers made in each of the last four years: Diego Guevara, 1999; Jobey Thomas, 2000, 2001, 2002.

What Can Brown Do For You?: Junior guard Demon Brown has scored 20 or more points in six of the last nine games and 10 games overall. He's 2nd in C-USA with an 18.1 scoring average that improves to a league-leading 20.2 points in C-USA play. He has scored 15 or more points in 16 games and has scored in double figures in all but two games (0-2). Brown is 2nd on the team with 29 steals. He became the 18th player in 49ers history to score 1000 career points when he scored 22 at Cincinnati. With 235 career threes, Brown is tied with Diego Guevara for #3 all-time for the 49ers, behind Thomas and Williams.

Those Fantastic Freshmen: Freshman Curtis Withers posted his third double-double of the year vs. Houston with 13 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. He's second on the team with 10.0 points and 6.3 rebounds and improves to 11.0 and 6.8 in C-USA play. He adds 25 steals and has had 11 games in double figures.

Explosive swing Vincent Grier is shooting .541 from the floor with 10 dunks. He enjoyed his 3rd double-figure game of the year with 10 points vs. Houston, adding six boards. With 28 steals, he is a defensive threat and his athleticism can make for a highlight-film type air show.

Red-shirt freshman point Mitchell Baldwin, the speedster, is shooting .493 with a team-high 7 charges taken and 24 steals. Over the last 10 games, Baldwin has a 2.69 A-TO ratio with 43 assists and only 16 turnovers and in league play, Baldwin has 33 assists and only 10 turnovers (3.3 A-TO ratio - 3rd best in C-USA).
