Tempe, Ariz. - Pepperdine held Charlotte to a season-low .305 field goal pct. and a season-low two three-pointers in toppling the Niners, 81-70, in the first round of the AZcentral.com Holiday Classic.

The 49ers trailed by 12 at the half after shooting just .207 from the field and committing 12 turnovers.

The Niners posted an 11-0 run early in the second half to close to within three, 38-35 with 17:30 to play, but Pepperdine scored five of the next six points to increase the lead to seven, 43-36. The Niners would get no closer than four the rest of the way.

Brandon Armstrong led Pepperdine with a career-high 41 points (13-24 FG, 12-14 FT), but the Waves, likewise, shot under 40% at .391.

The 49ers were led by freshman Rodney White's 19 points. Demon Brown added 13 and Cam Stephens had 11.

The 49ers hit just 2-21 three-pointers in the game. Brown was 0-6, Jobey Thomas was 1-6 and Diego Guevara was 1-5.

With Guevara's lone three, he became the 16th player in 49er history to surpass 1000 points. He has now scored 1001.
