Davidson, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers junior Jobey Thomas nailed five-of-eight three-pointers for a game-high 19 points to lead the 49ers past Davidson, 69-53, for the 49ers fourth straight win. It was also the fifth straight Hornet's Trophy for the 49ers, who gained bragging rights in the official Battle of Mecklenburg County.
Thomas buried his third three-pointer in four possesions to boost the 49ers to a 22-point, 39-17 lead with 3:48 left in the first half. Davidson would score the next 10 points to close within 12, 39-27, by halftime.
Thomas finished the first half with 14 points and four threes and the 49ers, who enjoyed a 17-0 run to push a 16-13 lead to 20 points (33-13), finished the first half with nine threes.
Davidson would stay within striking distance, getting as close as eight on three different occasions, but Thomas hit his fifth three to answer the Wildcats last run and push the lead back to double figures, 59-48, for good.
Freshman Rodney White had 16 points and nine rebounds, sophomore Demon Brown scored 15 points and junior Cam Stephens grabbed double-digit rebounds (10) for the third time this season.
The 49ers shot a season-low .371 from the floor and hit just 1-of-13 threes in the second half, but managed their fourth straight win, all by double-figures.
The 49ers 6-1 start is the best since the Metro Championship season of 1994-95.
