Halton Arena - Senior Jobey Thomas scored a game-high 23 points and senior Cam Stephens added 21 points and 15 rebounds to lead Charlotte to a 96-54 victory over visting Tulane in the 49ers final home game of the year.
On a day in which a sellout crowd (9105) celebrated homecoming, "Senior Day" and the 25th Anniversary of the 49ers 1977 trip to the NCAA Final Four, the 49ers rolled to their biggest win of the season and clinched a first-round bye in the upcoming Conference USA Tournament. The top four teams in C-USA receive first-round byes.
Thomas notched his 13th 20-point scoring game of the season, and his ninth against C-USA competition, hitting five of nine three-pointers. With 1677 career points, Thomas moved into 7th-place all-time, passing Byron Dinkins (1657). With 97 three-pointers, this season, Thomas has tied the league record for threes in a season, previously held by Louisville's DeJuan Wheat.
Stephens recorded his 12th double-double of the season, and his eighth in league play. He is averaging a double-double of 14.6 points and 10.0 rebounds in league play.
Fellow senior Jermaine Williams had five points and three rebounds.
The 49ers led by 21 at the half, 49-28, thanks to Demon Brown's 15 points, all coming on three-pointers. Brown finished with 15, adding nine assists and two steals.
Charlotte shot .621 from the field and .480 (12-25) from three-point range.
The 49ers 11th win in C-USA play is the most by the 49ers since 1997-98, when they went 13-3.
Charlotte concludes its regular-season, Saturday at Louisville at 12:00 noon.
The sellout was the 49ers fifth of the season and put the 49ers overall home attendance figure over 100,000 this year.
