PITTSBURGH (AP) - De'Angelo Alexander scored 29 points and Leemire Goldwire added 22 as Charlotte won on the road for only the second time all season, holding off slumping Duquesne 99-90 Wednesday night.
Jerell Jamison scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds for the 49ers (13-13, 6-7 in Atlantic 10), who were 1-9 with four consecutive losses on the road.
Duquesne (10-15, 6-8) lost its fourth in a row following a five-game winning streak, despite rallying from an 11-point deficit to take a 53-49 lead early in the second half. Robert Mitchell led the Dukes with 20 points, with Kieron Achara getting 16 points, Gary Tucker adding 15 and walk-on Jimmy Sherwood scoring 13.
Alexander, consistently getting behind Duquesne's trapping, pressing defense for layups and dunks set up by Carlos Williams, has 1,016 career points - the 21st player in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark. Goldwire needs 31 points to reach 1,000.
Alexander is averaging 24 points over his last four games.
Charlotte, playing at Duquesne for the first time since the 1994 NIT, led 85-83 with 4:18 remaining but pulled away for its fourth victory in five games as the Dukes missed six free throws in the final three minutes.
The 49ers made 13 of 31 3-point attempts, winning for only the fourth time in 10 games they reached double figures in 3-pointers.
