CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Demon Brown made six 3-pointers and scored 22 points to lead Charlotte to an 84-72 victory over South Florida on Wednesday night.
Butter Johnson added 13 points and seven rebounds while Brendan Plavich chipped in with 11 points for the 49ers (16-6, 8-3 Conference USA).
Terrence Leather scored 19 points and Brandon Mosley 16 to lead South Florida (7-15, 1-10).
The 49ers looked like they were going to run away early on, building a 17-point lead midway through the first half behind three 3-pointers from Brown and some strong play on the offensive glass from Calvin Clemmons.
But the Bulls battled back to cut the lead to five near the end of the first half behind the inside play of Terrence Leather and Gerrick Morris. The Bulls continued to chip away early in the second half, trimming the lead to two before Brown began to heat up again.
Brown knocked down 3-pointers on consecutive possessions midway through the second half as Charlotte steadily built a double-digit lead.

They won despite an off night from leading scorer Curtis Withers.
The sophomore forward came into the game averaging 16.9 points per game but didn't score his first points until late. He tied a season-low with five points. It was only the second time this season Withers had failed to reach double figures.
Wednesday's night marked the 100th game played at Halton Arena, where the 49ers ran their overall record to 81-19.
