The Charlotte 49ers picked up their 10th win in C-USA play with a 81-57 victory over DePaul, Saturday afternoon. Senior Jobey Thomas led the 49ers with 20 points and senior Cam Stephens added his 11th double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
For the second straight game the 49ers (16-8, 10-3) raced to an early start, leading 14-2 after the opening 5:30. In Wednesday's 75-63 win over Memphis, the 49ers led 19-3 in the early going. Against DePaul, the Niners pushed the lead to 21 by halftime, 44-23, with Thomas contributing 17 of his game-high points. In the second half, the Niners lead peaked at 31, 75-44, before DePaul closed to the final margin of 81-57.
The 49ers have now posted at least 10 wins in league play in five of the last six seasons.
Charlotte has won 9 of its last 11. In the last two wins, opponents have averaged just 60 points.
Butter Johnson added 11 points and Curtis Nash 10 for the 49ers. DePaul (9-15, 2-10) was led by Andre Brown and Quemont Greer, who both scored 12.
The 49ers enjoyed a double-digit rebounding advantage for the fifth time this season, 53-41. Stephens led the way with his 13 boards and freshman Eddie BAsden added a career-high 12 rebounds.
The 49ers travel to Marquette, Tuesday night, at 8:00 p.m. EST. That game will be broadcast locally by WAXN-TV.
