Dalonte Hill left the 49ers in the spring of 2006 to take a similar position at Kansas State.
Charlotte 49ers men's basketball coach Bobby Lutz hired former 49er Dalonte Hill as assistant basketball coach in the summer of 2003. Hill was a member of the 49ers teams from 1998-2000, enjoying three straight post-season appearances, including two with Lutz as head coach. As an assistant coach, Hill was been a part of two more NCAA tournament seasons.
"We're extremely excited to have Dalonte join us again at Charlotte," Lutz said. "He was always a coach on the floor and had a great understanding of the game. I always knew he was going to be a coach. Due to his AAU coaching experience, he has tremendous contacts, especially along the eastern seaboard and in the (Washington) D.C. area."
"As a coach and former player, I think I can relate well to today's student-athlete," said Hill, who graduated from UNC Charlotte in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in sociology. "Judy (Rose) and coach (Lutz) believed in me to bring me back. It's where I played and under the coach I played for. We're a good team in a good conference and we've added new facilities to help (players) as students and we've got the new practice facility. It's big-time, here."
In 1997-98, Hill played in 26 games, making one start. He averaged 4.2 points and 2.9 rebounds as Charlotte went 20-11 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Hill sat out the 1998-99 season, as the 49ers returned to the NCAA Tournament. In 1999-00, Hill made 11 starts in 23 games played, averaging 6.2 points and 3.5 rebounds as the 49ers earned an NIT bid with a 17-16 record. He transferred to Bowie State for one season before returning to UNC Charlotte to complete his degree.
Hill has also served as an AAU coach for DC Assault Incorporated.
"We had well over 100 applicants and many excellent candidates but I kept coming back to the fact that Dalonte is one of our own -- and one of my own -- and I knew with him I would get an unbelievable passion for the job, for the school, for the team and program. He was very impressive in the interviews and really went beyond what I expected in terms of his commitment, passion and maturity. It's great to have another 49er on staff."
Hill has a daughter, Danae.
