Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers baseball squad will return for practice on campus after spending much of the first two and a half weeks away for field maintenance.
Charlotte will practice and hold intersquad scrimmages at North Mecklenburg High on Tuesday and Wednesday, before a practice session on campus Thursday.
Friday, the 49ers will participate in the athletic department's community service project, Hearts and Hands. The project involves building a playground at the Nevin Community Park in North Charlotte. They will spend a little more than five hours at the park, which eliminates a practice session that day.
On Saturday, Charlotte will have an intersquad scrimmage at 2 p.m. and Sunday's session begins at 4:30 p.m. at Tom and Lib Phillips Field at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium.
The Niners are planning to receive donated goods for the Second Harvest Food Bank for the fall scrimmage and home run derby event on October 25. More details on this event will be posted soon.
The Niners finished 43-16 in 2008, winning 40-plus games in back-to-back seasons, a first for the program. Charlotte also set the school record with a .333 batting average. The 2009 season begins on the road at ACC foe Clemson, with a three-game weekend series that begins on Friday, February 20 at 4 p.m.
