Baseball Team Practice Enters Second Week

Niners Head to North Meck High While Field is Groomed for Spring Season

Sept. 23, 2008

Charlotte, N.C. - Fall team practice heads into its second week, with only Tuesday's work scheduled at Tom and Lib Phillips Field at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium. On Wednesday, practice begins at North Mecklenburg High School as the playing surface continues to undergo its fall maintenance process.

Tentative scrimmage dates will be this Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at nearby North Meck High in neighboring Huntersville.

The last time Charlotte played a regular-season contest at the stadium, Chris Taylor hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the tenth in a 2-1 defeat of Rhode Island, clinching the Atlantic 10 regular-season title and winning Charlotte's 40th game of the season.

The Niners finished 43-16 in 2008, winning 40-plus games in back-to-back seasons, a first for the program. Charlotte also set the school record with a .333 batting average. The 2009 season begins on the road at ACC foe Clemson, with a three-game weekend series that begins on Friday, February 20 at 4 p.m.
