CHARLOTTE, NC - Former Charlotte 49ers pitcher John Maine was named to the twenty-five man roster for the United States team for the seven-inning All-Star Futures games on July 13. This game is part of Major League Baseball's All-Star festivities at Chicago's U.S. Cellular Field.

The All-Star Futures game features the top U.S. and International minor league prospects competing against each other. The U.S. team will be managed by eleven-time All-Star and Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk.

Maine, who currently pitches for the Baltimore Orioles Single A Affiliate Delmarva, was also named to the South Atlantic League All-Star team. Last week, he was picked as the starting pitcher for the Northern Division team in the All-Star game. The All-Star game takes place tonight at Applebee's Park in Lexington, Kentucky.

Maine enters the All-Star game with a 7-3 record and a South Atlantic League best 1.53 ERA with a league-high 108 strikeouts. He has only allowed 43 hits and 18 walks in 76 innings.

Maine, a 2002 sixth-round selection of the Orioles, finished his three-year career at Charlotte with 20 wins and 297 strikeouts which are both fourth best in the program's history. In 2001, he enjoyed arguably the greatest pitching season in the program's history, he set school records with 12 wins, 144 strikeouts and 134.1 innings pitched. For his efforts, he was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Year.
