CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Renovations are scheduled to begin this summer at Tom and Lib Phillips Field, the home of the Charlotte 49ers' baseball team. Beginning June 30, the current playing surface will be completely overhauled.

First, the current outfield will be completely removed. Once complete, the field will be laser leveled and a new drainage system will be installed. Sod will then be installed with Bermuda grass as the playing surface. Finally, the warning track and infield area will be refurbished.

The renovations will enable the team to play games back on campus next season. Heavy rains and poor drainage forced the 49ers to move almost all of their home games to Kannapolis' Fieldcrest-Cannon Stadium this past season.

The renovation of the field will be complete in time for fall practice.
