Tuscon, Ariz. - Senior catcher Chris Taylor (Mt. Pleasant, N.C.) has been named to the Louisville Slugger/TPX Third-Team All-America list, the second straight year a Charlotte baseball player has appeared on one of the teams. Taylor finished the Atlantic 10 Tournament leading the league and the team with 19 home runs. He also has 69 and 18 doubles this season. Taylor is one of seven catchers on the three teams.
He follows Adam Mills and Brad McElroy as All-Americans from last season and becomes Charlotte's eighth baseball player in team history named to such an honor.
Taylor is in the top 10 in team history for career hits (sixth), runs (ninth), doubles (third), home runs (fifth), runs batted in (third), and games played (ninth). This season, he is tied for second in home runs in a season in team history, and is fifth in RBI and sixth in total bases in a season. Earlier this year, Taylor set a school mark with a home run in five consecutive games, belting six in that span.
He is listed 23rd in the NCAA in home runs hit and 29th in home runs per game, while 39th in the country in total bases this season heading into the postseason.
His 18th home run of the year clinched the regular-season conference title in the bottom of the tenth against Rhode Island in the Niners final game of the regular season. Each of his last three home runs has given Charlotte a lead that they did not relinquish.
Taylor had a pair of home runs last year in NCAA Regional play in Columbia, S.C. He became the first player in team history to hit two homers in a game in the postseason. Taylor leads Charlotte into its second consecutive NCAA Regional, a first for the program. Charlotte takes on South Carolina at the Raleigh, N.C. Regional Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.
