Charlotte Earns Three-Seed in Raleigh, N.C. Regional

Niners Face Familiar Foe South Carolina Gamecocks Friday at 2 p.m.

May 26, 2008

Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers have been selected as the three-seed in the Raleigh, N.C. Regional of the NCAA Baseball Championships. Charlotte will face second-seeded South Carolina on Friday at 2 p.m. at Doak Stadium at North Carolina State. The 7 p.m. game features host N.C. State taking on James Madison.

Charlotte won an automatic berth in the tournament by virtue of winning their second straight Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship this past weekend in Camden, N.J. The Niners have won six straight A-10 Tournament games and are advancing to the NCAA Playoffs in consecutive years for the first time in school history.

Charlotte is 6-2 the previous two seasons against the other three teams at the Raleigh regional, with at least one win against all three squads. The Niners swept a three-game series against James Madison last March in Kannapolis, then defeated N.C. State twice in the Columbia, S.C. regional last season before losing twice to South Carolina in that regional, eventually bowing out in the regional final. Charlotte got in the win column at USC earlier this season, defeating the Gamecocks 11-2 in Columbia on March 5. Charlotte outscored the three opponents in those eight games by a 72-52 margin, or an average score of 9-6.5

The Niners are 2-6 all-time in regional play, with a 2-2 record last season.

Live stats and free audio will be available at charlotte49ers.com all weekend for all 49ers games.
