NEW ORLEANS, LA - Charlotte's senior infielder George Sandel was named second team All-Conference USA for the third straight season. He becomes the second Charlotte player to earn All-Conference USA honors three times. James Matan earned All-Conference USA honors three times from 1996-98.
Sandel, enters the Conference USA Tournament, with a .332 batting average which is the second highest on the team. He leads the team with a .423 average in Conference USA games. He currently has a career .345 batting average which is the eighth highest career average in the program's history.
This season, Sandel has started all 47 of Charlotte's games at either second base or shortstop. He currently has 62 hits, 45 runs and 11 doubles this season. He has collected at least a hit in 34 games this season with 19 multi-hit games including five three-hit games and two four-hit games.
Sandel and the rest of the 49ers play Conference USA regular season champion #15 Southern Miss in their first game of the Conference USA Tournament, Wednesday, May 21 at 1:30 pm at Tulane's Turchin Stadium.
