CHICAGO - Junior pitcher John Maine (Hartwood, VA/North Stafford HS) has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week. This is the second time that he has earned this honor in his career.

Maine earned pitcher of the week honors after throwing a complete-game shutout against Cincinnati, May 5. He only allowed one hit in the game, which came with one out in the sixth inning. He had a season-high 13 strikeouts in the seven-inning game. This marked the first time since Matt McWilliams against UNC Greensboro (May 10, 1995) that a Charlotte pitcher has thrown a shutout in a seven-inning complete game.

Maine has a team-high 91 strikeouts in 82.2 innings pitched this season. He will have a least two more starts this season as he attempts to become only the third 49ers pitcher to post back-to-back 100 strikeout seasons.

Maine and the rest of the 49ers return to action this weekend as they host nationally ranked Houston in their final home series of the season, May 10-12.
