Cory Tilton Earns Co-Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Honors

Redshirt Freshman Takes Second Honor of Season Taking Charge of Opportunity

May 5, 2008

Philadelphia, Pa. - Redshirt freshman Cory Tilton earned his second Co-Rookie of the Week Honor of the season for Charlotte, officials announced Monday. Tilton took advantage of an injury situation and turned it into a positive.

Filling in as the center fielder for the injured Brad McElroy, Tilton hit leadoff for the first time this season and went 3-for-4 at Fordham Saturday, scoring three runs to spark the lineup and lead Charlotte to a 7-1 win over the Rams. Sunday, he drove in three runs with a two-RBI triple, and scored a run in the 10-2 Charlotte victory.

He finished 5-for-9 in the Fordham series, and added an RBI in Charlotte's Tuesday 7-5 win at Winthrop.

Overall, Tilton is hitting .316 this season in 36, with three triples this season.

Charlotte is 34-13 overall, with seven games left this year, all at home. The Niners are in a three-way tie for first place in the Atlantic 10, at 14-7. Charlotte hosts Richmond for an Atlantic 10 series, beginning with a Thursday evening 6 p.m. contest at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium, where the Niners are 20-6 this season.
