Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers baseball program has earned its first-ever national ranking in the USA Today/ESPN Baseball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, debuting at No. 25 this week. Charlotte has a 32-7 overall record and 13-2 record in Atlantic 10 play. Charlotte also has amassed a 22-2 record at home this season. Charlotte is the only A-10 school in the national rankings this season. The Niners have never been ranked before this season.
The Niners are one of three teams in the country with seven or fewer losses (Minnesota is 25-7, while Florida State is 37-6), and is one of 14 teams in the NCAA DIvision I ranks with 32 or more wins.
The Niners find themselves moving up in several other national polls this week.
The other nationally recognized poll, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, Charlotte has moved up one spot to sit at No. 22 this week. Charlotte has been in this poll for three straight weeks.
In the Perfect Game Crosschecker Poll, Charlotte moved up one spot to No. 20.
The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll has Charlotte holding at No. 26 this week, after making its debut last week.
Ping!Baseball.com has the Niners up two spots to No. 22 for this week and predicts on the site that Charlotte should make its way to the Top 20.
Charlotte hosts Wake Forest Tuesday night at 6 p.m. before heading to George Washington for an Atlantic 10 weekend series in the nation's capital.
