Charlotte Baseball Registers Two More on Weekly Honors List

Mills Wins High Pitcher Marks for Fourth Time; McElroy New to Player List

March 26, 2007

Philadelphia, Pa. - Senior Adam Mills and junior Brad McElroy were named Co-Pitcher and Co-Player of the week for the Atlantic 10, officials announced today.

Mills, a four-time recipient of the weekly honor, tossed a complete-game six-hit shutout of Saint Louis on Friday, to start conference play. The Niners won the game 6-0. He improved to 6-1 on the season, with an ERA of 1.23 and a total of 80 strikeouts in eight starts. Mills has struck out 12 or more batters in five of his starts this season. He has allowed just 37 hits in 58.2 innings of work and has walked just 13. The Big Pool, Md. native was the A-10 strikeout champion a year ago, reaching 111 for the season, fourth-best in team history for one season. Mills' win on Friday tied him with Brannon Player for third place all-time in Charlotte career wins with 24. He also passed Player to take fourth place in career innings pitched, with 325.2 career frames. Mills is eight strikeouts away from passing former Niner All-American Tim Collie for third on the career strikeouts list.

McElroy is a first-time winner for Charlotte, but the third in the player category for Charlotte this season. In Charlotte's 3-1 week, McElroy had three hits in three of the four games, driving in 10 runs, at one in every game, on 10 hits. He hit two doubles and drew three walks for the week. Against Saint Louis, McElroy was seven-for-11 (.636 average) with three walks, and had a team-high seven RBI. He is currently on a nine-game hitting streak, his longest of the season, and has a hit in 15 of his last 16 games, raising his average from .281 to .409 during that span.

Charlotte is 19-5, which is the best start in school history through 24 games. The Niners finally get their first home game on campus of the season, when Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium opens on Friday in an A-10 matchup with Massachusetts at 2 p.m.
