Charlotte, N.C. - Rain has washed out the season-opening game for the Charlotte 49ers, as they were to host Manhattan on Friday at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium. The two teams will play a doubleheader at noon on Saturday and finish the weekend series with the originally scheduled Sunday contest at noon.
The Jaspers were a 2006 regional finalist, finishing with a school-record 34 wins. In 2007, Manhattan lost in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament championship to Le Moyne, and finished with a 35-19 record, besting the school's wins mark for the second straight season.
Charlotte comes off its best season in school history, with a 49-12 mark. The 49ers had the nation's lowest team ERA and individual-best ERA and wins total from senior Adam Mills. Charlotte had the second-highest winning percentage in the country and set the Atlantic 10 mark for conference wins in a season. Charlotte finished 23-4 in league play in 2007. The Niners capped off their season with a pair of regional wins, the first in team history, defeating North Carolina State twice to advance to the regional final against South Carolina at the Columbia, S.C. regional in June.
Live Stats, Game Audio and Live Video will be available of the doubleheader on Saturday at charlotte49ers.com
