NEW ORLEANS, LA - The Charlotte 49ers baseball team's lost to instate foe East Carolina, 8-5, ending their season in the Conference USA Tournament. The 49ers finished the season with a 21-28 overall record.
The 49ers pounded out ten hits in the game. Brad Lamm and Brad Erwin each had two hits in their final collegiate game for the 49ers.
East Carolina scratched out the game's first run when Jamie Paige scored on Darryl Lawhorn's double down the right field line in the first inning.
East Carolina plated another run in the second inning making the score, 2-0.
The 49ers cut the ECU lead in half when Alex Derhak scored on George Sandel's infield groundout in the third inning.
The 49ers then took the lead with two runs on three hits in the fourth inning. Erwin scored the inning's first run on Thomas Bowker's double off the center field wall. Then, Bowker scored the go-ahead run on Brad Lamm's single to left field.
Charlotte added a run in the seventh inning when Lamm scored on Brian Scafe's single to right field.
Then, East Carolina regained the lead for good with six runs on five hits in the eighth inning.
The 49ers closed out the scoring with Sandel's home run over the right field wall in the eighth inning.
Charlotte starting pitcher Matt Savage enjoyed a solid performance in his final collegiate game. He scattered eight hits, allowed three runs with eight strikeouts over seven innings. He did not figure in the game's final decision.
