FORT WORTH, TX - The Charlotte 49ers baseball team despite Brian Scafe's tenth home run of the season lost on the road at Conference USA foe TCU, 6-2. With the loss, Charlotte was eliminated from earning a berth in next week's eight-team Conference USA Tournament.
Cory Lane and Thomas Bowker paced the 49ers with two hits.
TCU took control of the game with five runs on three hits in the third inning. The big hit of the inning was Bo Cogbill's two-run single to center field.
The Horned Frogs plated their sixth run of the game on a couple of hits in the sixth inning.
Charlotte plated their first two runs when Brian Scafe connected on his tenth home run of the season with a two-run blast over the left field wall in the seventh inning. Scafe becomes the third Charlotte player to connect on double-figure home runs this season which is the first time this has happened for the 49ers since 1998.
Charlotte senior pitcher Justin Brown recorded his fourth career complete game in his final appearance for the 49ers. He scattered six hits and allowed six runs with only four earned runs over his eight innings of work. He finished his senior season with a career-best 68 strikeouts.
The two teams will continue their Conference USA series, Friday, May 21 at 8 pm.
