MEMPHIS, TN - The Charlotte 49ers fall to Memphis 11-10 in the first game of their three-game Conference USA series. However, Charlotte is eliminated from the eight team Conference USA Tournament with the loss.
Charlotte jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs on five hits in the first inning. Brian Bowman scored the game's first run on Brad Lamm's double to left field. Then, Lamm scored the second run of the inning on a Memphis throwing error. Then, Brad Halvorson's two-run home run over the left field wall rounded out the 49ers scoring in the first.
However, Memphis got right back into the game with three runs on three hits in the first inning.
The 49ers added four more runs on five hits in the second inning. Brian York leadoff the inning with a home run over the left field wall. Then, Nick Blackmon scored the inning's second run on Brian Bowman's single to left field. Bowman scored his second run of the game on George Sandel's single to center field. Sandel scored the inning's final run on Alex Derhak's single to left field.
Memphis cut the Charlotte lead to 8-4 on Barrett Smith's solo home run over the left center field wall in the third inning.
Charlotte added another run when Halvorson connected on his second home run of the game over the left field wall in the fourth inning. Halvorson becomes the first Charlotte player to hit two home runs in a game since Brad Erwin accomplished the feat against UNC Asheville, March 13, 2001.
Memphis added a run in the sixth inning on Kyle Scott's solo home run over the left field wall.

The 49ers tied the game in the eighth inning when Joey Bradshaw scored on Bowman's sacrifice fly to right field.
Memphis's James Rouse scored the game-winning run on Paul Reuer's single to center field in the ninth inning.
The two teams continue their three-game Conference USA series, Friday, May 17 at 8 pm.
