AMELIA, OH - The Charlotte 49ers behind 16 hits and the pitching of Zachary Treadway defeated Cincinnati, 10-5, in the first game of their three-game Conference USA series.

With the win, Charlotte improved to 21-25 overall and 11-14 in Conference USA. While, Cincinnati fell to 14-39 overall and 6-22 in Conference USA.

Treadway posted his fourth complete game of the season after recording eight strikeouts and scattering six hits and five runs over the nine innings. With the win, Treadway improved to 8-4 on the season.

Thomas Bowker paced the 49ers with three hits including a home run. While, George Sandel, Adam Willard, Randall Poplin, Brian Scafe and Michael Roane each had two hits for Charlotte.

Charlotte jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Willard connected on a two-run home run over the left center field wall in the first inning.

The 49ers tacked on another run in the second inning when Brad Lamm scored on Scafe's double to left center field.

Cincinnati put a run on the scoreboard when Drew Saylor connected on a solo home run over the left center field wall in the second inning.

The Bearcats added another run in the fifth inning on Jake Smith's home run over the left field wall.

Then, the 49ers exploded for five runs on five hits in the seventh inning. Bowker started the scoring off when he connected on a two-run home run over the left field wall. Then, Roane scored the next run of the inning on Willard's single to left field. Then, Sandel scored on Poplin's single down the right field line. Willard scored the inning's final run on Brad Erwin's sacrifice fly to right field.

 

 

The Bearcats plated a run in the seventh inning when Jack Nelson scored on Justin Niefer's sacrifice fly to right field.

Then, Scafe scored in the eighth inning and Nick Blackmon scored in the ninth inning to round out the scoring for Charlotte.

Cincinnati's Smith connected on his second home run of the game a two-run shot in the ninth inning making the final score, 10-5.

The two teams continue their Conference USA series, Friday, May 16 at 12 pm.
