Final Stats

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte 49ers baseball dropped their final home game of the season, 16-6, to instate foe NC State.

With the win NC State improved to 29-24 on the season. While Charlotte falls to 19-32 on the season.

NC State's Justin Riley lead all hitters with three hits and four RBI. Charlotte's George Sandel, Alex Derhak and Dusty Stepp lead the 49ers with two hits each.

NC State took an early 4-0 lead with four runs on four hits in the first inning. All four Wolfpack runs came on home runs by Joe Gaetti, Colt Morton and David Hicks.

Charlotte tied the game, 4-4, with four runs on three hits in the second inning. Brad Erwin scored the 49ers first run on Dusty Stepp's single to right center field. Then, Alex Derhak scored the second run of the inning on Brian York's sacrifice fly to left field. Then, Nick Blackmon tied the game with his first home run of the season a two-run shot over the left center field wall.

The 49ers took their first lead of the game, 6-4, with two runs on three hit in the third inning. Brad Lamm scored the inning's first run on a balk by NC State pitcher Daryl Minugh. Erwin scored his second run of the game on a single to left center field by Dusty Stepp.

NC State regained the lead for good, 10-6, with six runs on two hits in the fourth inning. The big blow of the inning was a grand slam home run over the left field wall by Justin Riley.

The Wolfpack made the score 13-6 when Matt Butler connected on a three-run home run over the left center field wall in the fifth inning.

 

 

NC State added three runs in the eighth inning to round out the scoring.

The 49ers travel to Memphis for their final Conference USA series of the season, May 16-18. This crucial series will determine the final spot in the Conference USA Tournament. The first game of the Memphis series is Thursday, May 16 at 8 pm.
