CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers behind the pitching of John Maine split a doubleheader with Cincinnati. The Bearcats won the first game, 8-1. Then, the 49ers won the second game, 4-0.
In game two, Maine recorded 13 strikeouts and allowed only one hit in seven innings for a complete game shutout. This marked Charlotte's first complete game shutout pitching performance since 1999.
Charlotte's Adam Willard, Brad Lamm and Marko Little each had two hits in the second game.
Charlotte took the lead for good in the second game when Adam Willard scored on a Joey Bradshaw single to center field in the first inning.
Charlotte added three runs on four hits in the third inning making the score, 4-0. George Sandel scored the inning's first run on a Charlotte infield groundout. Then, Lamm scored the second run on Alex Derhak's double to right center field. Derhak scored the games final run on a Marko Little single to left field.
In game one, Cincinnati took the lead for good, 2-0, when Chris Hamblen connected on a two-run home run over the right center field wall in the first inning.
Cincinnati increased their lead to 4-0 with two runs in the second inning.
The 49ers cut the Cincinnati lead to 4-1 when Joey Bradshaw scored on Marko Little's groundout in the second inning.
Cincinnati added three runs on four hits in the fifth inning. Then, the Bearcats added a run in sixth inning making the final score of game one, 8-1.
