TAMPA, FL - The Charlotte 49ers baseball team split a doubleheader at USF. USF won the first game behind 12 hits, 4-1. Then, the 49ers behind the pitching of Matt Landphair and Erik Walker and a home run by Jamie Rusco held off USF, 6-5.
Adam Willard paced the 49ers with three hits in each game. Willard also had two RBI in the second game of the doubleheader.
In game one, USF plated the day's first run when Bryan Hierlmeier scored on Devin Ivany's single to center field in the first inning.
The Bulls added a run in the second inning when Travis Brown scored on Mike Macaluso's double to left center field in the second inning.
USF closed out their scoring on Hierlmeier's two-run single to center field in the fourth inning.
The 49ers scratched across a run in the ninth inning when Randall Poplin scored on Adam Floyd's infield single.
In game two, Charlotte took their first lead of the series when Willard scored on Brian Scafe's double to left center field in the first inning.
The 49ers tacked on two more runs in the third inning on Rusco's two-run blast over the right field wall. The home run was his 12th of the season which is the most by a Charlotte player since 1998.
USF tied the score when Jeremy Bellotti, Hierlmeier and Myron Leslie scored in the third inning.
Cory Lane scored in the fourth inning on Willard's infield single helping Charlotte regain the lead, 4-3.
USF tied the score again when Leslie scored on a Charlotte fielding error in the fifth inning.

Adam Floyd closed out the 49ers scoring on Willard's two-out single to left field in the eighth inning.
The Bulls scored the game's final run when Matt McHargue scored on Travis Brown's single to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Game two starting pitcher Matt Landphair collected his fourth win of the season after scattering six hits with two earned runs over seven innings. Erik Walker recorded his third save of the season after holding USF scoreless for the final inning and a third of the game.
With the split of the doubleheader, Charlotte's overall record goes to 18-23 and 7-13 in Conference USA. While, USF's record goes to 27-16 and 9-10 in Conference USA.
The two teams conclude their three-game series, Sunday, May 2 at 12 pm.
