CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte 49ers dropped their final non-conference game of the season to ACC foe Wake Forest, 9-1, at Tom and Lib Phillips Field.

With the win, Wake Forest improved to 28-17. While, Charlotte falls to 18-21 on the season.

Wake Forest's Jeff Ruziecki led all hitters with four hits.

Brad Erwin paced the 49ers with two hits in the game.

The Demon Deacons scored the game's first run on Jeff Ruziecki's home run over the right field wall in the second inning.

Wake Forest added another run in the third inning when Ryder Mathias scored on Ryan Johnson's single to right field.

Charlotte cut the Wake Forest lead in half when Jamie Rusco connected on a two-out two-run home run over the right center field wall in the fourth inning.

Wake increased their lead to 4-1 with a couple of runs in the sixth inning. Jamie D'Antona led off the inning with a home run over the left center field wall. Then, Ruziecki scored his second run of the game on a Charlotte wild pitch.

Then, Wake exploded for four runs on four hits in the seventh inning. Then, they tacked on a final run in the eighth inning making the final score, 9-1.

The 49ers return to action this weekend with a crucial Conference USA series at UAB. The first game of the series is Friday, May 2 at 8 pm.
