CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte 49ers behind 13 hits pounded Appalachian State, 13-3, in college baseball action at Tom and Lib Phillips Field.
With the win, the 49ers improves to 18-20 overall. With the loss, Appalachian State falls to 11-29 overall.
Charlotte's Adam Floyd led all hitters with three hits. He also scored two runs and knocked in two runs. Randall Poplin, Brad Lamm, and Alex Derhak each had two hits in the game for Charlotte. Derhak also had three RBI.
Charlotte plated the game's first run when Thomas Bowker scored on Brad Erwin's sacrifice fly to center field in the first inning.
The 49ers tacked on another run in the second inning when Michael Roane scored on an infield groundout.
Charlotte added two more runs in the fourth inning when Derhak and Floyd scored on Poplin's single to center field.
Appalachian State cut the Charlotte lead in half with two runs on three hits in the fifth inning. Clint Johns and Ben Marsh scored for the Mountaineers.
Charlotte exploded with six runs on six hits in the seventh inning. The big hits of the inning were two-run singles by Derhak and Bowker.
The Mountaineers tacked on a run in the eighth inning when Brad Peisel scored on Derek Smith's fielder's choice.
The 49ers closed out the scoring with three runs on three hits in the eighth inning. Lamm, Adam Willard and Jamie Rusco scored in the inning.
The 49ers host instate foe Wake Forest, Wednesday, April 30 at 6:30 pm at Tom and Lib Phillips Field.
