TAMPA, FLA - The Charlotte 49ers baseball rallied with ten runs in the fifth and sixth innings to defeat South Florida, 11-6. This win stopped Charlotte's nine game losing streak.
Alex Derhak lead Charlotte with three hits, three RBI and two doubles. Brad Halvorson also had three hits in the game. Brad Lamm lead the team with four RBI. Nine Charlotte players collected hits in the game. Brian Bowman, George Sandel, Brad Lamm and Brad Erwin all scord two runs.
The 49ers were trailing 5-1 entering the fifth inning. Then, they exploded for six runs on six hits to take the lead for good, 7-5. Lamm connected on a grandslam home run over the left field which tied the game at 5-5. Then, Brian York singled to left field scoring Erwin with the go-ahead run. Then, Dusty Stepp scored the final run of the inning on Brad Halvorson's single to center field.
Charlotte increased their lead to 11-5 with four runs on three hits in the sixth inning. Bowman scored the inning's first run on George Sandel's single to center field. Then, Marko Little collected a RBI double to right field. Derhak connected on a two-run double down the left field line to finish Charlotte's scoring.
Pitcher Justin Brown collected his fourth win of the season after scattering five hits and allowing only one run in five innings of relief.
