TAMPA, FL - The Charlotte 49ers baseball team drops a close baseball game at Conference USA rival South Florida, 5-4, in the first game of their Conference USA series.
The 49ers jumped out to a 1-0 when Brian Bowman scored on Joey Bradshaw's infield groundout in the first inning.
South Florida tied the game, 1-1, with a run on a hit in the first inning. South Florida's Mike Macaluso scored on a Jeff Baisley single to center field.
Charlotte regained the lead, 2-1, when Alex Derhak scored on Marko Little's infield groundout in the fourth inning.
South Florida took their first lead of the game, 3-2, with two runs in the sixth inning.
Charlotte regained the lead, 4-3, with two runs on two hits in the seventh inning. Tim Nalls scored the inning's first run on Brian Bowman's single to right field. Then, Adam Willard scored the go ahead run on George Sandel's infield groundout.
South Florida again tied the game 3-3 with a run on three hits in the seventh inning.
South Florida took the lead for good when Bill Nahorodny scored on an Allen Shirley single to left field in the eighth inning.
The two teams continue their three-game Conference USA series, Saturday, April 27 at 1 pm.
