CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte 49ers baseball team despite two home runs from Randall Poplin fell to UAB, 7-5, in the series opener.

Jamie Rusco paced the 49ers with three hits. Poplin had two hits and four RBI in the game. Adam Floyd added two hits for Charlotte including a home run.

Daniel Hill lead UAB with two hits.

The Blazers scratched across the game's first two runs on two hits in the third inning. Sam Clark scored the game's first run on Eugene Rodriguez's single to right field. Then, Josh Miljavac scored the inning's other run on a Charlotte wild pitch.

Charlotte knotted the score, 2-2, when Poplin connected on his eighth home run of the season a two-run blast over the left field wall in the fourth inning.

UAB regained the lead for good with four runs on three hits in the fifth inning. Zac Ward scored the inning's first run on a Miljavac's fielder's choice. Then, Clark and Miljavac scored on Hill's single to center field. Rodriguez scored the inning's final run on a Cole Helms single to left field.

Charlotte cut the UAB in half on Poplin's second home run of the game a two-run blast off the scoreboard in right center field in the sixth inning.

UAB plated their final run in the seventh inning when Hill scored on a Nathan McCorkle double off the right center field wall.

Floyd made the final score, 7-5, with his fourth home run of the season a solo shot over the left field wall in the eighth inning.

UAB pitcher Grant Addison collected his first win of the season after allowing four runs and seven hits over five innings. Eric Roberts recorded his third save of the season for the Blazers by only allowing one run on two hits in the final four innings.

The two teams continue their three-game Conference USA series, Saturday, April 24 at 2 pm.
