LOUISVILLE, KY - The Charlotte 49ers baseball team used 14 hits and got solid pitching Zachary Treadway and Julian Sides to defeat Louisville, 8-5, in the final game of their three-game Conference USA series.

Thomas Bowker and Jamie Rusco each had three hits for the 49ers. Bowker also led the team with two RBI. Randall Poplin and Chris Lane also had big days at the plate, adding two hits each.

Treadway collected his second win of the season after scattering five hits and allowing four runs with three earned runs over six and two-thirds innings. He recorded seven strikeouts in the game.

Sides collected his second career save after allowing only one run on two hits with three strikeouts over the final two and two-thirds innings of the game.

In the first inning, Charlotte plated the game's first run when Adam Willard scored on a Louisville fielding error.

The 49ers tacked on two more runs in the second inning. Brian Scafe leadoff the inning with his eighth home run of the season over the left field wall. Then, Chris Lane, who reached base on a double down the left field line, scored on Bowker's single to left field.

Willard scored his second run of the game on Bowker's double down the left field line in the fourth inning.

Louisville scored their first run when Mark Jurich leadoff the fourth inning with a home run over the right center field.

Then, Charlotte got that run right back in the fifth inning when Spencer Steedley scored on Cory Lane's sacrifice fly to center field.

 

 

The 49ers exploded for three runs on four hits in the sixth inning to close out their scoring. Bowker scored the inning's first run on Rusco's double down the left field line. Then, Rusco would score the inning's second run on a Louisville wild pitch. Kris Rochelle scored the 49ers third run of the inning on Poplin's ground rule double over the left field wall.

The Cardinals scored their second run in the sixth inning when Daniel Burton scored on Logan Johnson's double to left field.

Louisville tacked on two more runs in the seventh inning when Burton connected on a single to left field scoring Boomer Whiting and Jurich.

Then, Jurich closed out the scoring with his second home run of the game a solo shot over the right field wall leading off the ninth inning.

With the win, Charlotte improves to 16-17 on the season and 6-9 in Conference USA.

The 49ers return to action, Wednesday, April 21 when they host Furman at 6 pm.
