CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte 49ers baseball team lost to Furman, 5-2, at Tom and Lib Phillips Field. The Paladins scored five runs on 11 hits in the game.
Randall Poplin paced the 49ers with two hits including a home run.
Clint Hill had three hits for Furman. Andrew Greene and A.J. Davidiuk each had two hits for the Paladins.
Charlotte took an early 1-0 lead when Brad Lamm scored on an Alex Derhak single to center field.
Furman took a 2-1 lead with two runs on two hits in the third inning. Andrew Greene scored the Paladins' first run on A.J. Davidiuk's double to left field. Then, Davidiuk scored the other run on an infield groundout.
The 49ers knotted the score, 2-2, when Poplin connected on his sixth home run of the season over the right field wall in the fifth inning.
Furman regained the lead for good when Clint Hill scored on Dominic Frankey's double to left field in the seventh inning.
Furman tacked on a run in the eighth inning when Nick Wajda scored on Andrew Greene's sacrifice bunt.
The Paladins scored the game's final run in the ninth inning when Hill scored on a Charlotte wild pitch.
The 49ers return to action this weekend, April 18-20, when they host Conference USA foe Louisville in a three-game series at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in Kannapolis. The first game of the series is Friday, April 18 at 1 pm.
