Final Stats

GREENSBORO, NC - Charlotte falls to UNC Greensboro, 13-12, in a slugfest as both teams combined for 25 runs and 29 hits.

Charlotte exploded to a 6-0 lead with six runs on three hits in the first inning. Brian Bowman scored the game's first run on Brad Erwin's bases-loaded walk. Then, George Sandel scored the second run on Alex Derhak's sacrifice fly to left field. Brad Lamm scored the inning's third run on Travis Hill's single to left field. Brad Halvorson finished off the scoring with his second home run of the season a three-run shot over the left field wall. Halvorson's home run was Charlotte's first home run in over two weeks since the first game of the TCU series, March 29.

UNC Greensboro tied the score, 6-6, with six runs on five hits and two Charlotte errors in the first inning. Ryan Gordon connected on a double to right field that scored Jason Sarvis and Justin Saltalamacchia with the Spartans' first two runs. Then, the other four UNC Greensboro runs were unearned since a Charlotte passed ball and two errors caused those runs to score.

Charlotte regained the lead, 8-6, with two runs on three hits in the second inning. Lamm scored the inning's first run on Erwin's two-out double to right center field. Then, Erwin scored the second run of the inning on Derhak's single to center field.

The 49ers increased their lead to 10-6 when Brian York connected on his first career home run a two-run shot over the left field wall in the third inning.

The Spartans cut the Charlotte lead to 10-8 with two runs on two hits in the third inning.

 

 

UNC Greensboro scored two more runs in the fourth inning to tie the score at 10-10.

UNC Greensboro took their first lead of the game, 12-10, with two runs on two hits and two Charlotte fielding errors in the sixth inning.

Charlotte tied the game at 12-12 when pinch hitter Adam Willard connected on a two-out two-run single to center field in the seventh inning.

The Spartans regained the lead for good 13-12 when Saltalamacchia scored on Gordon's single to center field in the seventh inning.

Charlotte returns to action with a three-game series this weekend at Conference USA foe Louisville, April 19-21. The first game of the series is Friday, April 19 at 6 pm.
